Piano Lessons

I have over twenty years of experience teaching piano to children and adults. I take pride in successfully conveying musical concepts to all different personality types. I am especially good at working with children, and I will patiently explore teaching styles to find the approach that best fits their needs.

My vision for students: to experience the joy of making music regardless of skill level!

For beginners, I like to focus on reading music and developing keyboard technique. To accomplish these objectives, students will start off with easy piano pieces and finger exercises. Many of these materials will come from a method book, though I sometimes like to write my own pieces for younger beginners if they need supplemental instruction. 

 

As the student progresses, I will assign more advanced pieces and exercises. I also like to introduce music theory concepts such as key signatures, scale construction, and chord building as these skills lead to a better understanding of the language of music. If the student expresses an interest, I can also expose them to creative aspects of music such as arranging and songwriting.
